Ehren Jordan’s F-Block Brilliance!

Ehren Jordan does not need an intro, unless you don’t know that he was the long time winemaker at Turley. The Chardonnay is sourced from Block F – easily one of Hudson’s best and most intriguing spots for the varietal.  Originally planted in 1984, the parcel sits is almost immediately visible from the entryway to the ranch property – just pass the series of olive trees and you nearly run right into the rows that provide us our delicious bounty. Sold at first to to Ramey, the F Block was replanted in the early 2000s to the “Shot Wente” clone and is now sold only to Kongsgaard and Failla (though Lee does keep a healthy portion for the Hudson wines as well).  An ideal match for the site and for our style of winemaking, Shot Wente provides low yields, early maturation and high natural acidity in the grapes at harvest time.  These elements meld seamlessly with Ehren’s gentle élevage techniques, eliciting the site’s exotic aromatics and forceful, mineral-driven texture.

Vinous 94 Points: “Another brilliant wine in this range, the 2016 Chardonnay Hudson Vineyard is superb. Dense, powerful and beautifully layered, the 2016 exudes richness in all of its dimensions. There is plenty of Hudson textural resonance, but the 2016 is at the same time quite polished and refined. I very much admire the sense of balance.”

Jeb Dunnuck 94 Points: ‘Perfumed notes of mint, iris flower, green citrus and a wet rock-like minerality emerge from the 2016 Chardonnay Hudson Vineyard. It shows more and more classic orchard fruits with time in the glass and has remarkable purity, good acidity, and a classic feel. I suspect it will age for a decade as well.”
