The winery is a partnership between Marty Tautcher an executive at Microsoft and Chris Peterson (winemaker), who honed his skills at DeLille Cellars and several wineries in France and Italy. When their paths crossed at DeLille, an immediate bond was created and the idea for Avennia was born. “Avennia is inspired by the Roman name for the city of Avignon, and signifies the heart of Old World winemaking. The Avennia wines are designed to tease rather than flaunt; pique interest, not beg for attention. They stand for elegance, delicacy, purity. Our wines are made to enhance conversation, not dominate it, and will be a welcome guest at the table.”

The wine opens up to a great aroma of black stone fruits (cherries, currants) and a hint of chocolate jumping out of the glass. The wine is medium to full in body with a seamless palate of balanced black stone fruits, a hint of spice and the right touch of acidity. This is a great blend that you drink well now but will cellar well for a good 5-8 years. Production 625 cases

Jeb Dunnuck 95 Points: “Checking in as a blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 12% Cabernet Franc, the 2018 Gravura gives up a big, rich, Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated nose of darker currants, leafy herbs, graphite, and damp earth. It shows more floral and sappy herb notes with time in the glass and is wonderfully complex. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has sweet tannins, plenty of mid-palate depth, and a charming, undeniably delicious, and ready-to-go profile that should still keep for a decade.”
