Voluptuous under $75.00 Napa Cab only 150 cases produced

I am excited to introduce the new Coho Cabernet Sauvignon from the (very small production) 2017 vintage. The wine is sourced from some boutique, family-owned vineyards located in the Napa Valley (Perata, Michael Black & Sugarloaf East known from Bevan fame!). Winemaker Phil Titus (longtime “star” at Chappellet winery) produced an amazing, crowd-pleasing wine!  As always, the Coho production is limited and only 158 cases were produced of this great vintage – so don’t wait too long to jump on this wine!

The majority of the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in this wine was grown on the prestigious Sugarloaf East Vineyard on a hillside southeast of downtown Napa. The Petit Verdot and the remaining Cabernet Sauvignon are from two small family run vineyards in Coombsville. These fog cooled sites instill aromas of anise, dark berries, and sweet peas into the intriguing nose. Entry to the vibrant palate is noted by rich plum, cassis, and licorice flavors, supported by silky tannins. The wine is lush and full in body, yet flavorful and bright while very well-balanced. Too bad only 150 cases were produced.

Varietal Composition: 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot, 1% Merlot

Winery Notes: “The goal at COHO has always been to make balanced, supple wines that reflect the rich, nuanced fruit and crisp acidity that are the hallmark characteristics of the cooler climate vineyards of Napa Valley. Our 2017 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is an aromatic, deeply flavored, elegant wine that reflects all our winemaking aspirations. The Cabernet Sauvignon in this wine was grown on the prestigious Sugarloaf East Vineyard on a hillside southeast of downtown Napa. The Petit Verdot and the Merlot are from two small family run vineyards in Coombsville. These fog cooled sites imbue aromas of lilac, dark berries, and delicate baking spices into the intriguing nose. Bright, rich flavors of blackberries and anise, with nuances of bitter-sweet chocolate fill the palate, and delightfully linger as the wine disappears.

Wine Spectator 93 Points: “Plush and inviting, with waves of warmed cassis and plum compote lined with dark licorice, sweet tobacco and loam. The long finish lets the fruit play out nicely, with a velvety feel throughout. There’s ample toast, but the fruit keeps the upper hand. Should have lots of fans for sure. Drink now through 2032.”

Antonio Galloni wrote in Vinous: “This is one of the more open-knit, voluptuous wine(s) of the year… Readers looking for immediate gratification will find plenty of that here. Coho’s Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) offers quite a bit of immediacy and overall impact, with plenty of blackberry jam, chocolate, sweet spices and leather flavors.”
