This reads more like a movie, but it is real! In 2000 a young, restless winemaker Jimi Brooks who was a world-traveler with a love for Moto Guzzi bikes and old Land Rovers started his own winery after gaining experience at some other wineries. Then in 2004 at age 38 he died of a sudden aneurysm. He left behind an 8 year old son (he is 20 now), and it was harvest time. More than 10 local vintners and friends stepped up to the plate and harvested and vinified the Brooks wine. His sister Janie who still lives in Monterey today, took over his wine business and runs every week between 2 states taking care of her own family, the winery and guiding her nephew into what could be his winery one day. Today the winery thrives and the wines are made by long time friend Chris Williams. The 2015 Pinot Gris is a 6 barrel production, so very limited! |
