LAST CALL 4  The BEST Napa Cab Franc

The Story: Trespass is a small 5 acre all estate property in northwestern St. Helena at the base of Spring Mountain. The wines are hand-crafted by Kirk Venge who has been making wine since he was a little child under the tutelage of his dad Nils Venge (the first EVER 100 point winemaker in the US with his 1985 Groth Reserve Cabernet). Kirk has wowed us with many great wines (Beau Vigne, Macauley, Honeycutt, Venge, etc. He also made the first 5 Melis Family Cabernets). Nils told me that at pre-school age Kirk knew he was going to be winemaker

The Wine: Our friends at Trespass crafted yet another remarkable wine! Kirk Venge does not skip a beat with this latest release. It is beyond awesome. I would  rate this as the best Cabernet Franc in the Napa Valley, but who am I to say. This wine has an amazing dense purple hue and a touch of anise and black currant on the nose. Extraction would make you think it is Syrah, yet this wine is amazingly elegant and offers up a storm of gorgeous, elegant black stone fruit alongside its full-bodied armor. Great balance, with the right amount of fruit and acid. The wine’s finishes with a long silkiness. 125 cases produced.

Winery Notes: ”What we love most about Trespass Cabernet Franc is its unwavering expression of site. Wines come from all over, in a multitude of microclimates and terroirs, but when a single varietal is planted on the correct site, the result can be profound. Trespass Cabernet Franc has stolen that secret and shares it with the world. Bold nose of dark red fruits, blueberry and plum with the savories of cedar and hints of earth. The palate relates to even more of the dark fruit and bits of cocoa nib. Varietal character carries nicely throughout the overall sensation of this wine with a nice shadow of Right Bank herbals so typical and welcome to Cabernet Franc. Just 125 cases of this wine are produced and while quite young today, we trust that aged correctly this wine will drink superbly to 2039 and beyond.
