Winery Notes: “We combine both the Valenti Ranch, a one acre block of a Chave selection interplanted with both Grenache and Mourvedre, with McDowell and 877 from the Perli Vineyard. While this blend doesn’t play along with the rules of traditional GSM blends; this one is leaning considerably more in the Syrah direction and the Grenache and Mourvedre play more a seasoning role. The field planting from Valenti Ranch is picked all at once and vinified together along with a touch of Viognier for some aromatic lift. The McDowell and 877 from the Perli are blended in later. The fermentation was 100% native yeast using 100% whole clusters. The end result is a cool climate blend showing black and red fruits, crushed pepper, cured meat, orange peel, sage and a touch of floral violet. A lean cool climate blend showcasing the Mendocino Ridge coastal Blend: 85% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre 5% Grenache, 5% Viognier
FMW 95 Points: “A very impressive wine right out of the starting gate. On the nose and palate you’ll encounter ginger-spice, violet, lush blueberries, a touch of licorice and dark chocolate. This wine is loaded with bold flavors, and offers a well-balanced medium to full body that is both silky and polished in texture. The finish is long with silky tannins. The 2019 Drew is a blend of 85% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre 5% Grenache, 5% Viognier.”
