Margaux’ Pavillon Rouge Under $45… from Napa

Château La Grande Roche is a brand within the Forman family of wines. The name was derived in recognition of the presence of the gravel nature of the Forman Vineyard which is surrounded by massive boulders (Grande Roche) in a true Cllos-like fashion. It is 100% estate grown and is generally and predominantly made up of Cabernet Sauvignon but, depending on the vintage, can also have Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot in the blend. The brand was created in 1984 to ensure that the Forman Cabernet Sauvignon would consistently meet the exacting standards that the wine maintains. One could analogize the brand; “Château La Grande Roche” is to Forman what Pavillon Rouge is to Margaux.

Winemaker Notes: “A wonderfully deep color leads into expectations of an impressive wine. Medoc or Napa? (Hard to tell). All of the spiciness of Bordeaux, yet lusciousness of the Napa Valley make this wine so intriguing.  Great extraction, great balance, superb fruit, yet not a fruit bomb, and  superb long finish — A REAL CROWD PLEASER! The wine is a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot and  2% Merlot Sourced 100% from the Forman Vineyard Estate.”

Tasting Notes: A classic Forman Napa Cabernet this “Château La Grande Roche” offers up a gorgeous nose of bright cherries, cassis, flowers, and a touch of herbal elements. This lush wine is medium to full-bodied with great richness offering some floral elements, silky grained tannins, and unbelievable elegance.  This youngster can be enjoyed now and should cellar well for 5-8 years.
