The 2017 Coho “Premiere Napa Valley” Auction Lot offers up a deep purple color hue. Bold aromas of black cherries, warm cassis, chocolate, and espresso beans jump out of the glass, with subtle notes of sage and tobacco. The wine is medium to full in body with a striking elegant palate that offers up a smorgasbord of flavors. The wine finishes long with silky, velvety tannins.
Winemaker Phil Titus, the longtime ace-winemaker at Chappellet has been crafting the Coho wines for the past 7 years and I noticed a very productive change when he took the helm at this small producer.
