Founded by an army of one, Patrick Krutz, Krutz Family Cellars has just recently grown into its “full” business name. The 2003-’06 vintages were crafted entirely by Patrick. Youngest brother Cole came on the scene in 2007 and has been assisting in the cellar ever since. Also joining the operation (and the family) in 2008 was Rebecca Krutz. She and Patrick met in Napa Valley in the summer of 2007 and were married the next year. Together, they have two sons, Patrick II and Tripp Morris, along with a daughter, Ellie. When the business was founded, the word “Family” was included due to Patrick’s close family ties, but now it encompasses an even bigger and broader meaning. After all, anyone that enjoys a bottle of Krutz Family Cellars is a part of our extended family. I have been happily impressed by Patrick’s winemaking skills over the years, and in my book this wine is yet another accolade!

Stunning flavors of blackberry and blueberry liqueurs, and crème de cassis mix with traditional Syrah notes of smoked bacon, licorice, and pepper. Medium- to full-bodied on the palate with a ripe and voluptuous profile. Some oak is hiding under that Californian ripeness of the fruit, while the complexity is very northern Rhône.
94 Points, Editors’ Choice, Top 100 Wines of 2012:
“A dramatic wine, rich and full bodied, this has flavors that change with every taste. The structure is complex in tannins and acid, framing kaleidoscopic notes of blackberry, black currant, spicy smoked bacon, violet, white pepper and sandalwood. Drink this outstanding Syrah over the next six years.”
