Academy Award Winning Cabernet by John Kongsgaard

Carroll Ballard is an Academy Award winning filmwriter, known for movies such as Never Cry Wolf, Information Agency, Black Stallion, etc.  Most of Ballard’s films deal with man and his relation to nature and have a strong poetic streak, and this carried over into his love of wine.  He met John Kongsgaard and the rest… is history. In 1992 he broke ground on Spring Mountain, and planted thirteen acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, one acre of Merlot and one acre of Petit Verdot. In 2007, one ton of the harvest was vinified into their first vintage at Kongsgaard cellars – under the guidance of John, of course.

Robert Parker: “Denser, richer, treated the same way as the 2012, but more extracted in stature is the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon from Spring Mountain. The wine has a dense purple color, good, sweet blueberry and black raspberry fruit, medium to full body, impressive texture, and sweet tannin. The finish is long and impressive. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.”

John Kongsgaard notes: “Dense aromas of black currant, creme de cassis, dark chocolate and hints of floral notes. On the palate, black currant, poached fig, leather and spice box. Good structure, lush and rounded off with finely grained tannins. Seductive now but given the time this wine will evolve beautifully over many years to come.”
