Hourglass was created by Ned Smith in 1976, who loved making Zinfandel from this property. In 1992 his son Jeff Smith took over the land and business and enlisted Robert Foley as his winemaker. They started Hourglass 2.0. by making Cabernet, Cabernet Franc, and Sauvignon Blanc from this amazing property. Jeff purchased what is now the Blueline Vineyard as well. As of a couple of years ago, Tony Biagi (formerly with Spottswoode, Cade, etc.) has taken over the winemaking reins at the winery.

Robert Parker 97 Points: “ A blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, 3% Malbec, and 2% Cabernet Franc, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Blueline Estate reveals an opaque purple-black color, exploding from the glass with bombastic scents of crème de cassis, blackberry pie, and chocolate-covered cherries, plus hints of Indian spices, menthol, and licorice, with a touch of sandalwood.
