4 Barrel, 95 Point Red Gem

Giovanni Grandinetti worked his way up the wine ladder, learning the wine trade literally from the ground up.  He operated the crushpad, worked the vineyards, cleaned the barrels, etc.  But it was not until he started working for some smaller, boutique wineries that he found his passion – making wine.  He went back to school to expand his wine education and landed a job at Herman Story, where he is still the #2 guy behind Russell From.  Russell took him under the wings and guided him to his own label – with great success!

Jeb Dunnuck 95 Points (formerly with Robert Parker): “The 2014 High Horse is 100% Grenache, from sites in the Edna Valley and Santa Maria, that spent 22 months in 50% new barrels. It offers a ruby/purple tinged color to go with notes of raspberries, blueberries, dried violets, white pepper and spice. It’s polished, light on the palate, has fine tannin and a terrific finish. It’s a seriously good wine.”

Jeb Dunnuck: “One of the biggest surprises in my tastings for this report was the quality of Giovanni Grandinetti’s latest releases at Lost Blues Wines. I loved his 2013s, but the 2014s are even better.”
