Varieties now all but extinct except where they are inter-planted in a few old Zinfandel vineyards–Peloursin, Negrette, and Petite Sirah– add structure, color, and acid. The rocks, the dirt, the morning fog and the afternoon sun form an ideal microclimate that exists nowhere else. This is a sensational Zinfandel, with an explosive nose of pepper, raw meat, blackberry, black raspberry and cherry. Deep, chewy and dense, it finishes at 14.8% natural alcohol.
