Rob and Felicia Petree planted a home vineyard at their El Dorado Hills home and soon realized that “real” Cabernet couldn’t be made here, so to set out to find a good vineyard in the Napa Valley. They also lucked out to team up with the assistant winemaker of Continuum and Petree Cabernet was born. This first vintage is a whopping 300 cases of great quality fruit sourced from a well-known Napa vineyard. I met up with Rob and Felicia and tasted through their (small) portfolio and walked away impressed with the wine and their persona. Not the pushy, stuck-up folks, but nice, warm, family folks that are excited about their new baby – Petree Cellars.

The wine opens up with nice red and black stone aromatics, a whiff of dark chocolate and a hint of spice. Medium-full in body this wine offers bright red and black stone fruit flavors with a touch of vanilla, chocolate intertwined with a touch of clove and white pepper. The wine is lush, well-balanced and leads into a long, silky tannin finish. The 2013 Petree Cellars Cabernet is a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc. A pleasant surprise, this Premiere Release!
