2012 Napa Zin of the Year ~ 175 cases produced only 8 allocated!

Kirk Vegne has been crafting wines since his childhood with his “famous” dad Nils Venge (first 100 Point winemaker in the Napa Valley, 1985 Groth Reserve).  Nils told me some years ago that Kirk is a better winemaker than he’ll ever be – big statement!  Kirk also makes the wines for Macauley, Venge, Honeycut, Jax, Igenous and I am sure I am forgetting some, but not a bad portfolio for a guy in his late 30’s!   He has been at the helm at Trespass since its inception a good 10 years ago!

Sourced from one of the oldest vineyards in the Napa Valley this 107 year old vineyard – only 175 cases produced – might be one of the best Zinfandels to come from the Valley floor in recent history.  On impact you’ll encounter a tremendous aroma of black cherries, exotic spices and a whiff of white pepper and earth.  If this wine was a gorgeous women, it would be a real “head turner” – it still is, even if it is just wine!  This gorgeous, single vineyard “oldie” still possesses great richness and amazing balance and depth.  This wine is very complex and well-balanced loaded with black stone fruit, plum, a touch of white pepper.  An interesting perfuminess runs through the wine from start to finish.  Unfortunately only 175 cases produced!
