Small producer shows the big guys how it is done.

In a recent blind tasting of 2009 Pinot Noir, this 97 case production really turned heads when it gave the big guys a run for their money. The lineup consisted of:

  • Donum (96  WS, $90.00)
  • Rochioli Little Hill (96  WS $80.00)
  • Beaux Freres Ribbon Ridge (95  WS $90.00)
  • Kosta Browne Kanzler (95 WS $85.00)
  • Peter Michael Clos due Ciel (95 WS $125.00)
  • Siduri Pisoni (95 Pt WS $60.00)
  • Paul Hobbs Lindsay (94 Pt WS $ 85.00)

With a group of 35 tasters, I could say that this was a fair assessment. Not only did Boheme come in first, it also got a much higher average price than its actual cost. The average price “guessed” was $64.00.

Only 97 cases of this amazing Pinot Noir were produced, and that is a few hundred short of what we could sell, because it is THAT good! Aroma of dusty cherries, plums and evergreen. The mouthfeel is elegant and lush, with flavors of dark cherries, red raspberries, clove, cinnamon, and tea. The lengthy finish is complex and inviting.
