I am proud to introduce the new release of 2008 Coho SummitVine Ranch. We were excited to feature it at our Sixth Anniversary Tasting on August 20 and it was an immediate success. I would say that they were winner of the night! Our group went wild over this wine. I would be surprised not to see high scores on this gem! I am rarely “wowed” by a wine, but this one really WOWED me!
Coho 2008 SummitVine Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon
Diamond Mountain Napa Valley
This might be on the best efforts from our friends at Coho. I loved the 2007 vintage, but this one is more refined. The aromatics more intense, the flavors more profound. Unfortunately, not all is roses – the production is about half of 2007, so you’ll have to act quick. At impact this mountain-grown Cabernet shows bright black-stone fruit with hints of cassis and a whiff of minerality (they call this “terroir” in wine lingo). On the palate, this full-bodied youngster demonstrates bull-like intensity, yet ballerina-like elegance. Loaded with complex and luscious fruit that dance over the palate into a long-lasting, complex but velvety finish. This year’s blend consists out of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot all from the SummitVine Ranch high up Diamond Mountain (well above Diamond Creek). On that note, this wine retails at 1/3 of Diamond Creek and I would say offers a much better quality/price ratio.
