Gamba Vineyards and Winery

Gamba Vineyards is a small, family owned vineyard and winery in Sonoma County. The  110 year old 27 acre Gamba Estate Vineyard parcel rests on the Eastern edge of the beautiful Russian River Valley on gently rolling bench land above the valley floor. Planted to Zinfandel in 1900, the Gamba Estate Vineyard consists primarily of Old Vine Zinfandel, as well as small separate blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon. With ideal Southern exposure, the vineyard is bathed in sunlight during the growing season. On average the yield is small, in part due to nature, but also by design-approximately one half ton, and occasionally up to one ton per acre is harvested, depending on the vigor of vineyard block and severity of pruning.

Carrying on the tradition of this legendary old vine vineyard, the 2009 vintage has a tremendously dense texture complemented by big fruit and great power. Stunningly rich and concentrated, the 2009 Gamba Old Vine Moratto Vineyard Russian River Valley Zinfandel has incredibly deep, dark fruit and luscious tannins.

This old-vine Zinfandel provides captivating aromas of fresh blackberry, white pepper and anise on the nose. Characterized by its particularly dark inky opaque color, this wine is complemented by flavors reminiscent of ripe plum, blackberry and bittersweet chocolate – characteristics achieved by the co-fermentation of Old Vine Zinfandel and Old Vine Petite Sirah grapes. This wine is very round and full with hints of complex flavors, showcasing espresso, and silky, spicy dark chocolate notes on the finish. Enjoy its long, elegant, finish that engages the senses and fills the palate.
