We have created a great following with the Redmon Estate Cabernet for years now. Unfortunately, the estate is only 4 acres and 250 cases is about as much as the Redmons can produce – unless they start cutting corners. Quality before Quantity is both Redmon and Golden Gate Wine Cellars’ motto. That said year in year out, the demand for Redmon far outpaces its supply. So a few years ago, the Redmons approached seasoned grower Pat Garvey and the rest is history as they say. This Cabernet based blend is a little less expensive compared to the Estate bottling, but it still screams Redmon quality!

A new chapter in the Redmon book was created. From Pat Garvey’s ranch on the western hillside slope of Rutherford, the Redmons are sourcing this “new” wine. A blend of 80% Cabernet, 10% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc was crafted into a gorgeous, approachable wine. This Cabernet (blend) offers a very welcoming aroma of anise, chocolate and dark berry stone fruit. On the palate one is welcomed by dark chocolate, cassis, dark berries and a touch of vanilla. The wine is medium to full in body, lush in texture, well-balanced with nice extraction and the right ratio of fruit to acid. Its silky smooth tannins linger on for a good thirty seconds. A mere 200 cases of this puppy were produced!
Redmon 2009 Chardonnay, Carneros, Napa Valley 94 Points

This Chardonnay was sourced from an amazing vineyards located at the gateway to the Napa Valley. It is nestled at the top of a small knoll in the center of the Carneros Appellation. Bordered by some of the world’s finest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir producers, the fruit from this unique vineyard enjoys a pedigree second to none. Only 200 cases of this little gem were produced. The aromatics jumped out of the bottle while pouring my first glass. Hints of melon, white peaches and green apple are prevalent on both the nose and palate, along with balanced notes of lychee nuttiness. A touch of almond and vanilla dances across the mid-palate (courtesy of the great French oak barrels). Medium to full in body, this wine is lush and finishes long with refined acidity. Its silky mouth-feel expresses the natural goodness captured from the warm days and cool nights that one comes to expect from the Carneros region in the Napa Valley.
