Leviathan 2008 Proprietary Red

Andy Erickson is the winemaker for Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle, Ovid, Arietta, and others.  Andy teamed up with his wife Annie Favia-Erikson and her family to create Leviathan. This 2008 Red is a blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc and 7 % Syrah.

The dictionary lists the definition of Leviathan as “something unusually large or  formidable.”  I can say that this latest release is just that! Perfumes of star anise, paprika, and thyme draw into the glass. Flavors of cherries and blackberry jam rush over the palate, with smooth tannins and intense fruit lingering on a lengthy finish. A sizeable wine, the newest incarnation of Leviathan is a hedonistic delight now, and should provide added excitement in years to come – but why wait?
